Step one is getting your release on all major DSPs, such as Spotify, Apple Music, etc. You can do this through Make Waves. Step two is making sure you reach the right audience, which you can do through Groover. It’s a handy platform for getting your music in front of the right people. Make Waves artists get a 15% discount on their first campaign. Find more information on our Groover campaign page.
Groover is a promotion platform where you can submit a song or demo, which is then shared with over 3,000 active curators, labels, and blogs.
The steps are incredibly simple:
1. Pick your music pros
2. Add your song
3. Get guaranteed feedback
What makes it ideal is the guarantee that you’ll receive a response within a week. If someone doesn’t respond on time, you’ll get a refund so you can reach out to someone else.
The best time depends on your goal. To keep it simple, we’ll break this down into two phases:
Demos:
If your project isn’t quite finished yet, you can still use Groover to connect with labels, managers, bookers, publishers, or mentors. Keep in mind that many professionals prefer to hear a final version before committing. In the meantime, you can use their feedback to refine your production and strategy.
Ready or already released:
If your track is mixed and mastered, ready for release, or already out, you’re in the promotion phase. Groover can boost your visibility right after your first single drops and help build momentum for a bigger release, such as an EP or album.
Be clear about what you want
Tell people exactly what you’re looking for right now: a spot on a playlist or media coverage, a label, manager, booking agent or feedback on a demo. We would not advice to ask for everything at once.
Adapt your pitch to the chosen contact
Adapt your message based on the person you’re reaching out to. A label needs different information than a tour manager or a media outlet, so try to adapt your request and the details you share to each contact and briefly highlight your most relevant "current news".
Keep it short, but give enough context
All professionals will listen to the song you submit but try to focus on the context rather than describing the song itself. Mention one or two key points, such as:
- The release date and a link to listen to the song
- The context or story behind the music video
- Any recent or upcoming performances
Provide enough information in a short paragraph. Try to keep it to a maximum of 5 sentences! Then you’re ready to go :)
Make Waves helps you release your music professionally and smoothly. Groover helps you bring that release directly to the curator’s attention! Start sending your music on Groover here.
