Operations and automation engineer
Make Waves is seeking a medior operations & automation engineer to join our team in Amsterdam.
We are a DIY distribution and promotion platform for independent artists and labels. In an industry that's notoriously over-complicated and dominated by players who only care about volume, we're building something kinder: a genuinely helpful way to release music and build a following.
We already support more than 20,000 users in their music careers. In the Netherlands, we're a leading provider of independent digital music distribution, and we continue to grow steadily on an international scale.
We're looking for a motivated operations and automations engineer to join our small team. To be the most helpful DIY service out there, our operations team needs smart tools and automations to do their work efficiently. Where possible these tools can help the users make the right decisions early on in the release lifecycle.
You'll be the go-to person for technical content and catalog operations, diagnosing issues and fixing them directly. We imagine your time starting out split roughly 50/50 between operations and engineeringWherever you spot a chance to optimize, you'll have the time to automate the operational side as much as possible, so over time, your work shifts further and further toward engineering. In other words, you're building yourself out of the operational side of things.
- You stay calm under operational pressure and work steadily toward an incremental fix rather than panicking
- You have an automation reflex, doing a tedious task a few times is fine, but the moment it gets repetitive you reach for the right automation
- You take ownership without being told so, when something is broken it's yours to fix
- You care about the artists on the other end of our product
- You are available at least 3 days a week, of which at least one on site at our office in Amsterdam (we're unfortunately not in a position to offer relocation or visa sponsorship)
- Solid scripting and automation skills (Python preferably)
- You're comfortable writing SQL
- You can whip up internal tools when automations require it
- Good understanding of Git and Github
- Strong verbal and written communications skills (English)
- Ownership over the whole domain, you'll define this role
